Ingredients:
- 3, 1/4 ounce packages yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 cups scalded milk
- 1/2 cup + 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup + 1/2 cup (melted) unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 6-7 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 2 cups packed brown sugar
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- cinnamon
- milk
- oil
- cooking spray
- Dough: Let yeast dissolve in warm water (while scalding milk). Stir 1/2 cup sugar into scalded milk. Add shortening, 1/4 cup butter, salt and 2 cups flour. Let cool until warm and then add eggs and yeast mixture. Gradually add 4 cups flour. Knead and add last cup of flour if/as needed. Place in large well oiled metal bowl, cover and let rise until doubled.
- Rolls: Divide dough into 2 parts. Roll out 1st part of dough onto floured surface to make a rectangle shape. Brush with half of the melted butter, then sprinkle with 1 cup of the brown sugar, 1 cup the granulated sugar, and sprinkle with cinnamon. Drizzle with milk sparingly (or use spray bottle). Roll carefully and brush edge with milk so it will stick. Slice into 1" thick rolls with dental floss. Lay on greased cookie sheet, spray with cooking spray and cover loosely with saran wrap and let rise. Complete above steps with 2nd half of batch. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
- Icing: Beat together 1/4 cup butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 4 cups powdered sugar. Add 1 Tablespoon milk at a time until it reaches desired consistency.
