Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup + 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 4-4 1/2 cups flour
  • 4 cups (1 pound) powdered sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • ? Tablespoons milk

Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together sugar and ½ cup butter.
  3. Add eggs, sour cream and vanilla and blend well.
  4. Add salt, baking soda, baking powder and 4 cups flour.  Continue to add flour ¼ cup at a time until dough is gummy, but not sticky.
  5. Let chill in refrigerator while cleaning up.
  6. Either roll out and cut with cookie cutters, or drop by spoonfuls onto cookie sheet, then press down.
  7. Bake for 8 minutes.  Let cool completely, then frost with icing.
  8. In a mixing bowl, beat together powdered sugar, vanilla, almond extract and 1 Tablespoon milk.  Continue adding milk 1 Tablespoon at a time until icing reaches desired consistency.
